[AKRON MEN] Akron, which won the 2010 NCAA Division I men's title, lost a record seven players taken in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, but it accounted itself well on its spring tour of Spain, beating Rayo Vallecano's reserve team, 3-0, before losing to Real Madrid's C team, 1-0.

Darren Mattocks, who finished third in the nation with 18 goals in 2010, paced the Zips' attack against Vallecano with a pair of goals, while fellow Jamaican striker McKauly Tulloch chipped in with a goal and an assist. Scott Caldwell, who started at attacking mid, had two assists.

The Zips will feature 10 returning letterwinners but only four starters from last season's record-setting team in 2011.

Several recruits accompanied Akron on tour: defender Kyle Culbertson and Chilean forward Diego Navarrette and transfer Kayvon Afsarifard.

The Zips' spring season continues Saturday afternoon when they face Xavier at Cub Cadet Field, formerly known as Lee R. Jackson Field.
