Beckham's royal trip

Veteran soccer writer Scott Reid of the Orange County Register doesn't think much of David Beckham's trip to London to attend Friday's royal wedding.

He calls Beckham's decision to skip the Los Angeles Galaxy's preparations for Sunday's game at Dallas the latest in a series of snubs at the Galaxy and the latest example of why Major League Soccer is a joke.

"Beckham certainly hasn't taken MLS or the Galaxy seriously," Reid writes. "In his first four 'seasons' with the Galaxy, Beckham played in just 57 matches, spending much of his time trying to engineer moves to another club. That is when he isn't hanging out with Tom and Katie, doing photo shoots with Posh or flying to Beijing in the middle of a 12-match winless streak for an Olympic photo op. And now while his teammates train he is off to London, promising to be back in time for Sunday's match in Texas and no doubt the latest in a series of jetlagged, disinterested performances from Beckham."

He is missing one practice to attend an event in his country that is the most significant national event in the past decade. Beckham has shown MLS and the Galaxy the cold shoulder for much of his tenure, but this is not one of those times.
