Rafael Leonardo Callejas, president of the Honduran soccer federation, confirmed that D.C. United's Andy Najar, the 2010 MLS Rookie of the Year, is on the short list of 30 players Honduras sent to Concacaf for the 2011 Gold Cup, which will be held in June.
Najar, 18, recently announced that he would play for his native Honduras instead of waiting to get U.S. citizenship and then play for the United States. Ramon Nunez and Roger Espinoza, two other U.S. products, were among the other Catrachos on the 30-player list.
Other foreign-based players Coach Luis Suarez is considering include FC Dallas midfielder Marvin Chavez, Victor Bernardez, Georgie Welcome and Carlo Costly.
