[MLS] Real Salt Lake star Javier Morales suffered a shattered left ankle -- two broken bones, a dislocated ankle and torn ligaments -- on the tackle from behind by Chivas USA striker and fellow Argentine Marcos Mondaini in the first half of Saturday's game.

Referee Paul Ward initially just issued a yellow card for the foul from behind but he switched it to a red card.

Andrew Boyens was also red carded in the first half, so Chivas finished with nine players.

"To be honest, I didn't think it was the most flagrant of fouls," RSL coach Jason Kreissaid of Mondaini's foul that took place after Morales beat him on the left side of the field near the penalty area. "It was from behind, which we're trying to get out of the game. It's in the attacking third, and Javi was clearly getting ready to shoot. I understand the urgency of the situation from the defender trying to make the play, and I really don't think it was that egregious."

RSL won, 1-0, onWill Johnson's goal.

Since the beginning MLS has tolerated tackles where a defender goes "through" an attacker It's clear that despite all the talk the players and refs have not learned. the level of play is and caliber of attacker in the league is better than ever. But this hacking is like a cancer and has to be removed. If the top brass does not step in and do something , no foreign talent will want to come here and that will stunt all growth immediatelly. We are not ready to present the level of play that the fans now demand without imports Garber better fix this! I will let others chime in how the specifics of what needs to be done My one proposal would be an auto red for anything from behind even if the ball can be reached in theory

Simply,, MLS infractions committee should suspend Marcos Mondani, 3-8 games... This "Horrid" challenge was dangerous, even worse than the Mullan challenge 2 weeks ago...A statement should be made, these kinds of tackles are not tolerated...and the players should realize a long suspension will be for comming to them!
