[MLS] Real Salt Lake star Javier Morales suffered a shattered left ankle -- two broken bones, a dislocated ankle and torn ligaments -- on the tackle from behind by Chivas USA striker and fellow Argentine Marcos Mondaini in the first half of Saturday's game.

Referee Paul Ward initially just issued a yellow card for the foul from behind but he switched it to a red card.
Andrew Boyens was also red carded in the first half, so Chivas finished with nine players.
"To be honest, I didn't think it was the most flagrant of fouls," RSL coach Jason Kreis said of Mondaini's foul that took place after Morales beat him on the left side of the field near the penalty area. "It was from behind, which we're trying to get out of the game. It's in the attacking third, and Javi was clearly getting ready to shoot. I understand the urgency of the situation from the defender trying to make the play, and I really don't think it was that egregious."
RSL won, 1-0, on Will Johnson's goal.
