[MLS] Danny Mwanga picked the perfect time to notch his first goal of the season, scoring late to give the Philadelphia Union a 1-1 tie with the Los Angeles Galaxy in a game the visitors largely dominated. The match drew a PPL Park-record crowd of 19,178.
Landon Donovan had given the Galaxy the lead with a patented goal in the 24th minute, following up on a play that began when he back-heeled the ball to Juan Pablo Angel.
It w
as the fifth straight Galaxy goal Donovan scored this season and tied him for fourth place on the all-time MLS scoring list with Real Salt Lake's Jason Kreis (108 goals).
Colombian keeper Faryd Mondragon kept the Union in the game with several spectacular saves until Mwanga, who had seven goals in rookie campaign, scored his first goal of the 2011 season after taking an errant pass by Sean Franklin and rounding Donovan Ricketts to score into the empty net.
