Former Chivas USA attacker Francisco Palencia gave UNAM Pumas with a long-range rocket in 69th minute, but Joao Rojas scored less than five minutes later tosalvage a 1-1 tie for Morelia in the first leg of the Mexican Clausura final series.
The return match at UNAM’s Olimpico Universitario stadium is on Sunday (Telemundo, 12:55 ET). If the scoreis still level after 90 minutes, the match will go to overtime and penalty kicks.
UNAM is aiming for its seventh national title while Morelia vies for its second.
