FC Dallas defender George John, who holds both U.S. and Greek citizenship, has been invited to attend Greece's training camp prior to its friendly against Ecuador at Citi Field in New York June 7.

John, 24, will train with the national team but not play in the game against Ecuador. His agent, Ted Philapakos, released a statement citing that national team coach Fernando Santos would invite John to the camp that follows a June 4 Euro 2012 qualifier against Malta.

"It is a tremendous honor to be invited to join the Greek national team," John said in a statement. "I am looking forward to meeting the team in New York. As a new player, I need to use that time to get to know the staff and the players."

John was invited to attend a three-week U.S. training camp in January but was unable to participate because of an ankle injury. He has not played for the U.S. at any level. Current FIFA rules permit a player to represent one country in a non-competitive match without forfeiting his right to represent another country for which he is eligible.
