[MLS ATTENDANCE] Back in the day, MLS relied on July 4th fireworks to draw fans. Such is not the case these days, though the San Jose Earthquakes drew 41,028 fans on Saturday for its game against the New York Red Bulls played at Stanford Stadium.
* The Quakes have previously played select games at the Oakland Coliseum and Candlestick Park, but the game against the Red Bulls -- followed by
fireworks -- was their first at Stanford since returning to MLS.
* San Jose jumped ahead of New England and Columbus in average attendance. The Crew is now last with an average of 10,483 fans a game.
* The San Jose crowd boosted the weekly average to 21,116, the highest of the 2011 season. The previous high was 21,046 in Week 1.
