[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jozy Altidore scored 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute in his debut for AZ, a 3-1 winner over PSV in their Dutch Eredivisie opener. Timothy Chandler (who dropped out of the U.S. squad against Mexico when it was reported he was nursing a knee injury) and Jermaine Jones were the only Americans to start on Saturday's opening day in the Bundesliga. Former U.S. U-20 and U-17 keeper Quentin Westberg started for Evian in its Ligue 1 debut in France but let in a clanger that allowed host Brest to get back in their game that ended 2-2. Mikkel Diskerud scored for Stabaek in Norway, and Sacha Kljestan hit from the penalty spot for Anderlecht in the Belgian club's first win of the season. Great to see Jozy get off to a good start. I've high hopes that playing in the Eriedivisie will help him start realizing the potential we all know he has. AZ Alkmaar seems like a really good fit for him -- likely to get playing time AND help developing.
