Bob Bradley is one of three finalists to coach Egypt

Former U.S. head coach Bob Bradley is in the running to coach the Egyptian national team, according to Ahram Online, which is based in Cairo.

Along with Francisco Maturana of Colombia and former Yugoslavia international Zoran Filipovic, Bradley will be evaluated this week by Egyptian Football Association officials. Egypt has been without a coach since Hassan Shetata resigned in June. Talks broke off last week with Frenchman Herve Renard. Other candidates include Nelo Vingada, coach of Dalian Shide FC in China, and former Egyptian international and Olympic coach Hany Ramzy.

“President Samir Zaher and his deputy, Hany Abou-Reida and board member Hazem El-Hawary will make detailed reports about the three candidates before the board meets to choose one of them,” said a statement on the EFA's official Website.

Egypt is last in its qualifying group for the 2012 African Cup of Nations, to be hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Coach Bob Bradley should be declared certifiably insane if he were to take a job with the Egyptian Football Association. That would be nuts. Sure, a solid work ethic and desire to be working are laudible character traits. But not anywhere. I'm not talking about where Egypt is geographically located or its high demands as a CAF 2012 favorite to win it. No. If he is unaware of the absurd and dangerous political instability of this land (and its leaders past and present), then there is no helping the man. Just one recent little chapter out of Egyptian sporting, governmental, and football annals: The Algeria-Egypt home and away matches to see who would go to South Africa 2010. Surely he is aware of how ugly this chapter turned out?
