Struggling Arsenal, which last weekend lost, 8-2, to Manchester United, has signed Brazil left back Andre Santos from Turkish champion Fenerbahce and German central defender Per Mertesacker from Werder Bremen.
Arsenal reportedly paid $10 million for the 28-year-old Andre Santos.
"Santos is a quality player, with the ability to both defend well and get forward and help with attacks,” Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger said. “He has experience in the Champions League and for Brazil and has proven he can deliver at the highest level.”
The transfer fee for 26-year-old Mertesacker, who started for Germany at the last two World Cup, was reported by some media outlets at about $14 million.
