Bayern Munich, coming of a disappointing 2010-11 season, has won its eighth straight game and notched its eighth straight shutout when it beat Schalke 04 2-0 away on Sunday and sits atop the Bundesliga standings.

Bayern's run stretches to five Bundesliga games, one Champions League game, and its two-leg Champions League qualifier against FC Zurich.

With last season's top scorer, Mario Gomez, out, his replacement Nils Petersen opened the scoring against Schalke and 2010 World Cup Golden Shoe winner Thomas Mueller added the second.

Defending champion Borussia Dortmund lost its second straight Bundesliga game, conceding two late goals to go down 2-1 at Hanover 96. Bayern is in first place with 15 points from six games while Dortmund is in 11th place with seven points.
