Bates scores four times in first 20 minutes

[AROUND THE COUNTRY] Will Bates, the 2009 Soccer America Freshman of the Year, scored four goals in the first 20 minutes and then Virginia held on for dear life to hold off Radford, 4-3, on Tuesday night.

The Cavaliers had lost their previous two games at home last week and dropped out the Soccer America Men's Top 25. They improved to 5-3-0 on the season with the win.

Bates, who scored in the 3rd, 5th, 16th and 20th minutes, fell one shy of the school record, set by Bill Hodill against Davidson in 1942.

-- Andrew Wenger tallied two goals and added two assists in the win, pushing his points total to five goals and three assists in the past two games, to give Duke a 4-1 win at UNC Wilmington.
