[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jose Torres, who has emerged as a key player in new U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann's rebuilding campaign, will be sidelined for the rest of the Torneo Apertura in Mexico after suffering a foot injury.

He underwent surgery on Wednesday to to repair the injury to his fifth metatarsal.

Torres, 23, might be ready to play against if Pachuca qualifies for the playoffs. Pachuca is tied for sixth place after nine games.

"El Gringo" had played eight games for Pachuca. He debuted for the club in 2006 and has 119 games. Of the Americans based in Mexico, only Edgar Castillo has played more First Division games.

Torres' injury will mean he will miss the USA's October games against Honduras and Ecuador and probably any November games that are scheduled.

Of course I feel for JFT and wish him a speedy recovery, but it will definitely force Klinnsman to look at some new midfield combinations. I think it will help with our depth and perhaps provide us with different options in terms of formations.
