Bayern star investigated for arson

Three days after his luxury house burned down, Bayern Munich confirmed Brazilian defender Breno was being investigated on suspicion of "serious arson."

Breno was briefly hospitalized for smoke inhalation after the blaze, which is reported to have started in a guest room in the basement.

German tabloid Bild reported on Friday that the 21-year-old Brazilian has been admitted to a psychiatric institute. Bayern confirmed to the Muenchner Merkur that it advised Bruno to seek psychological help and he had legal representation.

"Those in charge of the club have been taking care of Breno and his family around the clock and will continue to do so," said Bayern in a statement. "We are surprised by the new situation, but as we have no further information, we cannot comment further.

Breno's wife and three children were not at home at the time of the fire.
