Juan Pablo Pino, who plays for Saudi Arabia's Al Nasr, was detained by Saudi moral police in Riyadh on charges of walking in a mall and wearing a sleeveless shirt that showed off religious tattoos, including one of Jesus.
The Catholic News Agency reported Pino, 24, was at the mall with his pregnant wife when he was arrested. Pino's wife has reportedly asked that the family leave Saudi Arabia. It reported a similar incident took place last year when a Romanian player kissed the tattoo of a cross he has on his arm after scoring a goal.
Shariah law required that tattoos must be covered at all times.
