UEFA has banned Wayne Rooney for all three group matches at Euro 2012 next summer for his red card in England's 2-2 draw with Montenegro last Friday.

"The striker will now be suspended from playing in his country's next three UEFA national competition matches for which he would be eligible," Uefa said in a statement.
Rooney can appeal and appear in his own defense at a later date. The expected appeal is likely to be heard before England discovers its Euro 2012 group opponents at the Dec. 2 draw. The FA said in advance that it would appeal against any ban that Rooney received.
