[MARYLAND-DUKE] No. 3 Maryland got two second-half goals from John Stertzer and withstood the ejection of
Duke, which hadcarried an eight-game unbeaten streak into the game, took the lead on freshman midfielder Sean Davis‘ goal in the 13th minute, but Jane equalized two minuteslater.
Maryland took the lead in the 55th minute when Patrick Mullins was taken down in the box and Stertzer scored from the penalty spot.
Stertzer added to the lead just 10 minutes later after nodding home a cross from Haitian defender Widner Saint Cyr. It was the third multi-goalgame of the year for Stertzer, who has 11 goals for the season, one behind senior Casey Townsend.
Mullins had the final Terrapin goal.
“Duke is an excellent team and we did a great job. It was an overall great effort by our team,” Maryland coach Sasho Cirovski said. “We came out in the second half and broke through with a couple of nice goals. What an occasion to have nearly 8,000 people here. It was a great night and I can go home with a smile on myface as I get one year older.”
The Terps improved to 13-1-1 and 4-1-0 in the ACC on the season.
