Nile Ranger of Newcastle United, whose run-ins with police prompted the team to drop him into the reserves, is in trouble again.

He was arrested and charged Sunday morning for his alleged role in a brawl that left a man with a broken jaw. Ranger, 20, will face magistrates twice in two days – and three times this month – following arrests for violence, drunk-driving and being drunk and disorderly.

A Northumbria police spokesman said: "Following an assault outside Cosy Joe's pub in the Bigg Market, Newcastle, on Saturday 27 August police have today charged Nile Ranger, 20, of Forest Hall, with two counts of common assault and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been bailed to appear at Newcastle magistrates court on Friday 18 November."

Ranger, a forward, had only been recently reinstated to the first team after a three-month stint in the reserves.
