SoccerAmerica - Keller wins Goalie of the Year 11/15/2011

[MLS AWARDS] Retiring Seattle Sounders goalie Kasey Keller was voted the 2011 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. He played in every minute of every game for the Sounders, who finished with the second-best record in MLS this season.

Keller, 41, won a league-high 18 games this season and led all starting goalkeepers in MLS in saves percentage (76 percent) while posting a 1.09 goals-against average and recording nine shutouts.

Keller ended a 20-year professional career that began in England and included stints in Germany and Spain before he finished up in Seattle, which he joined for its first MLS season in 2009.

As a Galaxy fan and a long-time USMNT fan, I feel the Keller vote is very sentimental at best. Kasey did great things for the USMNT (who can forget his great game against Romario and Brazil?), and I understand that he's retiring and all. But better than the performances turned in by our reserve keeper Josh Saunders. With 28 starts in 34 matches, most of our 0.82 GAA goes onto his stats. Kasey's 1.09 GAA is very good, but Josh was The Man for us, especially during the play-offs.

I agree with Barry 100%, indeed the Keller vote is nothing but a sentimental choice, and as a matter of fact when I read the headline my first thought was that sentimentality ruled the vote. Congratulations though, and now will we see you start your own club, be Sigi's GK coach, or be one of the USMNT GK coaches? Good Luck Mr. Keller, whatever the case you've done usvery proud indeed!
