[MLS EXPANSION DRAFT] Freddy Adu was among the players left available for Wednesday's Expansion Draft, where the Montreal Impact will select 10 players. Other players of note who could be taken in the draft include Brian Ching and Danny Cruz, who started for Houston in Sunday's MLS Cup final, Daniel Hernandez, the FC Dallas captain, and Omar Bravo, Sporting Kansas City's Mexican star. For the complete list of players clubs made available and protected ...

Each current MLS club has had the opportunity to protect 11 players from their 2011 roster. Generation adidas players (who did not graduate at the end of the 2011 season) and Homegrown players are automatically protected. Designated Players do not have to be protected unless the player has a no-trade clause in his contract.

Teams may lose no more than one player from their 2011 roster during the Expansion Draft.

I think they are saying that Freddy Adu is just an average player. Soccer media can't seem to get past his early hype. By the way... the bigger story about Freddy Adu is he LIED about his age to make it seem like he was a 16 year old phenom and get the big money. He is really at least 2 years older. The lie worked because we are still talking about a very average player.

Ching is on the list because he is old for a soccer player and his salary is probably too high for an expansion team. His work rate and effort make him one of the top forwards in MLS, despite only having average skills.

I do not know why Adu not being protected should surprise anyone . Amos you are spot on. He may be a very quality person, but it is the pinnacle of foolishness to sign and pay anyone that much money at that supposed age. Most kids that are huge and dominate at 14, are short, stocky, balding, and hairy-backed by 25. Or, they have a tough time adapting to playing in leagues where they can't out run or out physical the competition.

This is good for Freddy. He is a better than average CAM He's not a striker not a wide player and not a defender. He just needs a coach that will play him in his proper position and ascertain what ceiling he has Nowak was never that coach Hopefully montreal takes him and plays him or trades him to a club that will

What makes Adu unique in US soccer is that he has skills on the ball. He can actually dribble and pass with finesse. His problem is that he's small and slow. I like him for his skills but, so far, they haven't overcome his physical limitations. Still, I find watching him has a lot more entertainment value than most other MLS players because the skill level is higher

I feel badly for Brian Ching. He works hard, but he just can't stay healthy. Also, not surprised to see Toronto wanting to part ways with De Guzman. He's probably the most overpaid player in MLS, with the exception of Marvel Wynn. What you see of Freddy Adu is about as good as you'll get. Many people believed he would become as good as Messi has become. It is now time to turn the page on Adu and begin the search for a legit up and coming star.
