[MLS] Chivas USA and Sporting Kansas City orchestrated the first deal of the MLS offseason. English midfielder Ryan Smith moved from Sporting KC to Chivas USA in exchange for first- and third-round picks in the 2012 Supplemental Draft.

Smith, 25, appeared in 32 matches and had four goals and seven assists in two years for Kansas City.

In 2011, Smith appeared in six matches after returning from offseason knee surgery, but his season was cut short in June after leaving the team for family reasons.
The 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft will be held on Jan. 17 via conference call. The 2012 MLS SuperDraft to be held three days earlier in Kansas City will consist of only two rounds.
