[AMERICANS ABROAD] None of the three Americans in action Wednesday in the Europa League won, but Steve Cherundolo's Hannover 96 clinched a berth in the knockout stage despite its 2-0 loss at Standard Liege. For more on Americans abroad ...

FC Copenhagen's 1-1 tie at Vorskla meant that the Danish club can't catch Hannover 96 for second place in Group B.

Jozy Altidore's AZ tied Malmo, 0-0, leaving it probably in need of at least a point in its final game at home against Group G Metalist Kharkiv leader on Dec. 15 to hold off Austria Vienna for second place.

Jonathan Spector's Birmingham City fell, 1-0, at Braga but still remains alive in Group H. The Blues will go through if they beat NK Maribor and Braga beats Club Brugge on the final day of group play.
