While in Japan for the Club World Cup, in which it faces Brazil's Santos in the final on Sunday (Fox Soccer, 5:30 am ET), Barcelona learned its opponent in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. The defending champ faces Germany's Bayer Leverkusen in the two-leg series in late February and early March.

Four-time winner Bayern Munich has been paired with Swiss club FC Basel, which eliminated last season's runner-up Manchester United FC in Group C. The 2010 champion Inter Milan meets Marseille, the winner in 1993.

The other UEFA Champions League round of 16 matchups: Lyon (France) vs. APOEL (Cyrpus), Napoli (Italy) vs. Chelsea (England), AC Milan (Italy) vs. Arsenal (England), CSKA Moscow vs. Real Madrid (Spain), Zenit St Petersburg (Russia) vs. Benfica (Portugal).
