[AWARDS] Abby Wambach tied Mia Hamm as a five-time winner of U.S. Soccer's Female Athlete of the Year. Clint Dempsey was named the 2011 Male Athlete of the Year, his second award. Brek Shea and Sydney Leroux took the Young Male and Young Female Awards, respectively.

Online votes registered at ussoccer.com counted for 50 percent of the total votes, while the other 50 percent was represented by votes compiled from members of the national media and U.S. Soccer representatives.

Wambach also won in 2004, 2004, 2007 and 2010. Hamm, her former Washington Freedom teammate, won in 1994-98.

Dempsey becomes the fourth men's player to earn the honor at least two times, with Landon Donovan (2003, 2004, 2009, 2010), Kasey Keller (1997, 1999, 2005) and Marcelo Balboa (1992, 1994) also taking multiple awards.

Shea earned MLS Best XI honors and was one of three players to feature in all of Jurgen Klinsmann's games as head coach.

Leroux was the lone collegian called up for the women's national team's Olympic qualifying campaign that began Friday with a 14-0 win over the Dominican Republic.
