Clinton breaks Mississippi title mark

[HIGH SCHOOL] Clinton High won a record ninth Mississippi state title with a 2-0 win over Gulfport in the Class 6A state championship game. Other Mississippi boys prep champions: Starkville, Bay and Sacred Heart.

Goals by James Oliver and Markel Gladney in the first quarter of an hour was the difference for the Arrows.

Starkville High School claimed it first title with a 1-0 victory over favored Pascagoula on a goal by sophomore Justin Gordon in the Class 5A final.

Colby Krost set up Paul Johnson and Michael Stringer for goals to lead Bay High School to a 2-1 victory over Corinth to claim the Class 4A state championship.

Sacred Heart gained revenge for losses in the previous two championship games with 3-1 victory over Philadelphia in the Class 3A/2A/1A title match. Jacob Billingsley, Raul Contreras and Zach Johnson scored for the Crusaders, whose soccer program is only in its fifth season.
