[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jermaine Jones returned to action for Schalke 04 in the Europa League, starting in its 1-1 tie with Viktoria Plzen in the first leg of their round-of-32 series.

Jones is currently serving an eight-game Bundesliga suspension that does not apply to international action.

Jozy Altidore and Sacha Kljestan faced off in AZ's 1-0 win over Anderlecht in Alkmaar. Kljestan went the distance for the Belgian leader Anderlecht, while Altidore was a late sub for AZ, which is tied with PSV for the Eredivisie lead.

Steve Cherundolo and Oguchi Onyewu both received yellow cards. Cherundolo's Hannover 96 beat Club Brugge, 2-1, while Sporting rallied to tie Legia Warsaw, 2-2, in Poland.
