Cypress Bay caps unbeaten season with Florida title

[HIGH SCHOOL] Cypress Bay -- No. 1 in the NSCAA Winter Poll -- repeated as Florida's Class 5A champion and completed an unbeaten season (23-0-2) with a 4-1 win over Jacksonville-Mandarin at the University of South Florida. Other boys champions: Fleming Island, American Heritage, West Shore and Tampa Prep.

Daniel Jensen led Cypress Bay with two goals in the final. Javier Clavijo and Martin Giordano also scored.

Cameron McCurry, who will play football in college at Villanova, scored the overtime winner to give Fleming Island a 2-1 overtime victory over Seminole in the Class 4A championship.

American Heritage needed overtime to beat Land O' Lakes, 3-1, in the Class 3A final for its fifth state title. Luis Bentacur's 34th and 35th goals led the Patriots.

West Shore captured its first state title with a 3-2 overtime victory over Berkeley Prep on John Bocinsky's goal in the Class 2A championship.

Tampa Prep got two goals from Jordan Hayes off Michael Spezza corner kicks in its 3-0 win over Evangelical Christian in the Class 1A final. The title was the Terrapins' fifth.
