Vancouver Whitecaps rookie Darren Mattocks remains at St. Paul’s Hospital, where he’s being treated for burns to his right arm and shoulder suffered in a cooking accident at hisapartment on Sunday night.

“I think he’ll be fine,” said Coach Martin Rennie, who was the first person to visit Mattocks, 21, in the hospital. “It’s just a setback forhim. It’s obviously disappointing for him and for us. He’s right there on the cusp of being in the team.”

It’s the second bizarre injury to a young Whitecap in as many MLS seasons. Lastyear, Canadian winger Russell Teibert missed time with a nasty cut in his toe after riding his bike in flip flops.
