Italian police are investigating the alleged fixing of nine games in Serie A last season. Former Bari defender Andrea Masiello, now with Atalanta, has been arrested and eight of
his former Bari teammates are also being investigated by police.
Italian media said the allegations center on a match between Bari and Lecce in May that Bari lost 2-0 with Masiello scoring
an own goal in the 80th minute. Bari had already been relegated by the time that match was played.
The Bari sporting director, Guido Angelozzi, said the club had nothing
to do with any manipulation of the result. "We thought it was a normal match," he said. "The club is a damaged party in this. It gained no advantage from this at all."
