[WEEKLY HONORS] Charleston Battery midfielder Jose Cuevas was named the USL PRO Player of the Week after he scored a pair of goals to lead his side to a 2-1 victory over the Richmond Kickers on Saturday evening. Andy Herron (Ft. Lauderdale) and Ray Burse (Carolina) were named the first NASL Players of the Week of the 2012 season.

Cuevas, who was making his professional debut after spending 2011 with the PDL’s Fresno Fuego, opened the scoring in the 41st minute and added a second in the 67th, which proved to be the game-winner.

After the Strikers were reduced to 10 men in the 40th minute, Herron, the former Costan Rican international, scored the match’s lone goal in Fort Lauderdale’s 1-0 victory over FC Edmonton.

Burse made seven saves, including several spectacular efforts, and helped secure the 1-0 shutout for the RailHawks against defending NASL champion Minnesota Stars.
