Has Mexico's Superclasico lost its allure?

Telemundo’s coverage of the Superclasico -- Guadalajara vs. Club America -- on Easter Sunday is the most-watched Mexican league game in 2012, but it delivered only 1,876,000 total viewers.

Interest in the Chivas-America derby peaked in 2007 when it drew 4,290,000 viewers for Univision's prime-time coverage of their Torneo Clausura match.

For the first four years that Univision switched its ratings measurement system to the  Nielsen National Television Index, at least one Superclasico match drew more than 3 million viewers.

In 2010, the two games averaged more than 2.8 million viewers, but interest dipped to less than 2.1 million viewers for 2011.

Univision airs the Club America home game, while Telemundo holds rights to the Chivas match.

It hasn't helped that both clubs have struggled this season. America finished 17th out of 18 teams in the Torneo Apertura, and Chivas went winless in its first seven games in the Clausura.

VIVA ARGENTINA. GolTV has reached an agreement to broadcast more than a dozen exclusive Argentina national team matches through 2014. “We have seen tremendous ratings success with our Argentina national team matches," Rodrigo Lombello, GolTV's chief operating officer, said, "and this two-year agreement allows GolTV to offer a valuable product to advertisers and cable providers." GolTV also airs the weekly “Clasico” -- the week’s top match -- from Argentina and "Futbol Argentino," a half-hour magazine show every Tuesday.

RED BULLS' JOB FAIR. The New York Red Bulls are hosting a Career Fair at Red Bull Arena on Saturday prior to their game against the San Jose Earthquakes. For $20, fans can access the Career Fair and the Red Bulls match later that evening. Employers in attendance at the fair will include various pro teams from the New York area and Philadelphia.

SPONSORSHIP FRONT. Admiral has signed deals with three more PDL teams, VSI Tampa Flames, S. West Virginia Kings Warriors and Ocala Stampede, to outfit them for the 2012 season. The 2011 PDL champion Kitsap Pumas and the 2011 NASL champion Minnesota Stars also wear Admiral, a popular British brand in the 1970s that is making a comeback.

ENDORSEMENT WATCH. U.S. women's national team goalie Hope Solo has signed on to serve as a brand ambassador for Seiko. She'll promote its Ladies Sportura and Coutura collections to be released this fall.

TRIVIA, TRIVIA, TRIVIA. Ever want to know what a stadium record soccer crowd is? Historian Roger Allaway at bigsoccer.com has the record crowds of 25,000 or more. (Just missing is Crew Stadium, site of two of the greatest games of the last decade, the two USA-Mexico qualifiers that drew 24,329 and 24,685 fans.) The list would make a great Facebook Challenge list ...
