Darren Mattocks, the No. 2 pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, resumed training Monday after sitting out six weeks when he suffered burns on his right arm and
shoulder in a freak accident cooking a Jamaican chicken dish on his own.
“I was cooking and the oil splashed on my arm," he said of the accident that put him in the hospital for a
week. "It's a bit awkward. My hand caught the handle of the pot and it spilled over on my arm.”
The former University of Akron star's mother came to stay with him after the accident
and is still in Vancouver. Other family and friends also visited.
“That was really good for them to be around for a couple of months,” said Mattocks, who hopes to resume
full-contact training this week. “That's huge for me.”
