When the Los Angeles Galaxy re-signed David Beckham for the 2012 season, fans accepted the possibility that the English star would miss part of the MLS season to represent Great Britain in the London Olympics men's soccer competition.

There's no word yet on whether Stuart Pearce will include Beckham in Team GB, but Beckham missed the buildup to Saturday's SuperClasico against Chivas USA to take part in the ceremonies delivering the Olympic flame from Greece to Britain.

Beckham is in Athens to join other British Olympic officials, including Princess Anne, in flying the torch to Britain on Friday and then will board a flight to Los Angeles for Saturday's MLS game.

With three Galaxy games in the next eight days, it is expected that Beckham will sit out one of them. The Galaxy is mired in seventh place in the Western Conference with a 3-5-2 record. Chivas USA is eighth, a point behind.
