Poland opens with narrow win

[EURO 2012 WARM-UPS] The countdown to Euro 2012 began on Tuesday as co-host Poland beat Latvia, 1-0, in the first full international involving the tournament finalists. Also on Tuesday, Bayern Munich edged the Netherlands, 3-2, in a match that saw four goals scored in the first half an hour.

Artur Sobiech, the 21-year-old Hannover striker, scored the lone goal on a late header in the match played in an almost-empty Woertherseestadion in Klagenfurt, Austria.

Poland's lineup that did not include such stars as Borussia Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski, Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski and Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny.
