Terrence Boyd, the 21-year-old German-born and -raised striker who has played four times for the USA, has signed for Rapid Vienna.
Boyd scored 20 goals in 32 for Borussia
Dortmund's reserve team last season in the fourth division but failed to break into the first team, which lifted its second straight Bundesliga title.
He signed a three-year deal with Rapid
Vienna, which won the most recent of its record 32 Austrian titles in 2008, reports Brian Straus.
One of U.S. coach Jurgen
Klinsmann’s assistants is former Austrian midfielder Andreas Herzog, who spent the first six seasons of his pro career with Rapid and then returned to the club in
2002-03 before finishing up at the L.A. Galaxy. Rapid coach Peter Schöttel said Herzog’s recommendation played a significant role in the decision to sign the Bremen-born
Boyd, the son of a German mother and an American serviceman.
