A Polish fan was so upset when Russia scored against Poland in Tuesday's Euro 2012 game that he threw his television out the window of his third-story apartment in the southern Polish city of Sosnowiec.
Taken into custody, he missed the second half, when Poland equalized in the 1-1 tie and salvaged its hopes to reach the quarterfinals.
"When Russia scored the first goal, the man was so overcome by emotion that he took his old television and simply chucked it out the window," Tomasz Czerniak, spokesman for the municipal police. "Fortunately no one was around, so the television just fell, exploded, but no one was injured."
Neighbors of the 46-year-old called the police, who showed up at halftime to find the man uncooperative and heavily drunk. He will likely have to pay a $144 fine.
