One of the top forward tandems in MLS got back onto the field for the first time in nearly a year as Colorado beat Portland, 3-0, on Saturday.
Conor Casey and Omar Cummings hadn't been on the field together since July 16, 2011, and Casey celebrated the occasion with his first goal of the season. A ruptured Achilles' in that game last year sidelined Casey and prompted a run of injuries for both players that kept them apart.
Cummings nearly sat out the Timbers' game with a tight left quad that flared up on Friday but recovered in time to get the start. He and Casey came off a minute apart late in the match with the Rapids up, 2-0.
"Omar is still carrying a little bit of pain," said Coach Oscar Pareja. "You can tell sometimes he doesn't feel 100 percent comfortable. But he came in and did the job. And same thing with Conor."
