Three European veterans have been named to represent Brazil at the Olympic Games as its overage players.
Hulk (Porto), Thiago Silva (AC Milan) and Marcelo (Real Madrid) are included on a 22-man squad that will be trimmed to 18 for the Olympic soccer competition to kick off July 26. Silva will serve as team captain as Brazil vies for its first Olympic gold medal in soccer.
Young stars Neymar (Santos), Rafael (Manchester United) and Juan (Inter Milan) are among the age-eligible players. Among those excluded are Daniel Alves of Barcelona and David Luiz of Chelsea.
The squad will gather next week for a week-long training camp in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil starts the 16-team competition in Group C along with Egypt, Belarus, and New Zealand.
