[SUMMER OF SOCCER] European champion Chelsea opened the 2012 Herablife World Football Challenge with a 4-2 win over the Seattle Sounders before 53,309 fans at Century Field. New signings Eden Hazard and Marko Marin both scored for Chelsea, but the Blues' hero was Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku with two goals. Fredy Montero tallied two of his own for Seattle, which had rallied from two goals down after 11 minutes in a wild first half.

In Wednesday's other international involving MLS clubs, the Philadelphia Union fell to Aston Villa, 1-0.
