Donovan & Beckham rip ref after rout

After suffering its worse loss in more than four years -- a 4-0 defeat at Seattle -- the Los Angeles Galaxy ripped referee Chris Penso.

“It was the perfect storm,” Galaxy captain Landon Donovan said. “We started the game poorly, defending, all night we didn't attack well, the officiating was awful. It just seemed like everything went against us, and we didn't play well. ... When refs miss penalties, it changes game.”

The Galaxy believed Penso should have awarded a penalty kick in the 15th minute when right back A.J. DeLaGarza was downed by Leo Gonzalez. (VIDEO)

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said, “We played a good first half. I think it was a little unfortunate, because if a few calls went our way, it could have made a difference in the game."

And David Beckham, reports NBCSports, said, "I probably shouldn’t say too much but I’ll tell you now an AYSO ref is better than that today. It is quite remarkable. Is it why we lost the game? No.  But we definitely would have got back in the game and turned the crowd quiet. Would it have gotten us back into the game? Definitely; but we didn’t play well today and Seattle played a lot better.  Big calls like that -- it’s a big call in a game like this.  It’s disappointing."
