Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson confirmed it has made a bid to sign Dutch striker Robin van Persie from
Premier League rival Arsenal.
"We're trying our best," he told his club's website, "but there's no progress at this moment in time. We're not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal. I
don't know what their thoughts are because they're not giving anything away."
Van Persie, 29, has one year remaining on his contract and says he won't renew it. He led the EPL last season
with 30 goals.
