Parreira Offered South Africa Post

Carlos Alberto Parreira is wasting no time since his departure as Brazil's national team coach. Parreira told the Brazilian journal Estado de São Paulo on Thursday that "serious negotiations have been going on for some time" between Parreira and the South African Football Association (SAFA). No deal has been finalized, but SAFA expects Parreira to start on Aug. 1. Parreira only just resigned from his post with Brazil on Wednesday, after a failed campaign in Germany that saw the Samba Boys lose to Zinedine Zidane and France in the quarterfinals. He led the Brazilians to their fourth World Cup title in America in 1994. The respected coach has turned SAFA down before, when he was offered the job six years ago. He has reportedly been a offered a salary worth 1-million South African Rand per month, or $142,000. Parreira says he needs more time off after Germany 2006; SAFA executives told a South African paper they are willing to wait as long as it takes to get him on board. Read the original story...
