The Seattle Sounders' Osvaldo Alonso became a U.S. citizen about three months ago and hopes to represents the U.S. national team.
Joshua Mayers asked the 26-year-old on whether he's had an update on his eligibility -- his agent having sent an inquiry to FIFA: "Not yet. My agent is still working. Maybe soon I'll get a final response. I hope it's going to be good for me. Just waiting."
It's a longshot that Alonso will be deemed eligible for the USA because he played for Cuba in the 2007 Concacaf Gold Cup, after which he defected.
