Seattle's Montero hits hat trick; Gordon shines for San Jose

[MLS GOLEADORES] Seattle's Colombian attacker Freddy Montero scored a hat trick in a 6-2 win at Chivas USA. The strikes upped his season output to 11, marking his fourth season with at least 10 goals for the Sounders. San Jose's Alan Gordon, who in eight previous MLS seasons hadn't scored more than five, also hit the 11-goal mark last weekend. ... * Freddy Montero, 25, joined the Sounders in their inaugural season of 2009 and scored 12 goals. He followed up with 10 goals in 2010 and 12 in 2011. His hat trick on Saturday gives him 11 for the season and puts him in a 6-player tie for third in the Golden Boot race.

* Montero has scored in each of Seattle's last four games and has seven goals in the last six games.

* San Jose's Alan Gordon joined the Golden Boot race with his 10th and 11th goals in the Quakes' 4-1 win over Colorado. The 30-year-old Southern California product had not scored more than five goals in his previous eight MLS seasons.
