Berbatov move may prompt Dempsey exit

With the transfer saga of Dimitar Berbatov nearing completion with a move from Manchester United to Fulham, the departure of U.S. international Clint Dempsey seems imminent.

Berbatov had been apparently set to join Fiorentina but instead turned up to take a medical exam Thursday at Fulham, which earlier this week sold Mousa Dembele to Tottenham and according to Coach Martin Jol has been contacted by several clubs in addition to Liverpool regarding Dempsey.

The Bulgarian international Berbatov played just 12 matches for Manchester United last season. He played for Jol at Tottenham before it sold him to Manchester United in 2008.

The sudden shift to Fulham angered officials at Fiorentina, which had negotiated a transfer price and agreed to personal terms with Berbatov. Club officials said they paid for a plane ticket to Florence and were expecting his arrival but a contact from Juventus affected the process.
