Luiz Felipe Scolari, the prime candidate to replace Brazil coach Mano Menezes should Brazil make a change before hosting the 2014 World Cup, has parted compnay with Palmeiras, the club he led to the Copa Brasil title two months ago.
Scolari guided Brazil to its last World Cup title, in 2002, after taking over late in the qualifying campaign.
Palmeiras sacked him after 3-1 a loss to Vasco da Gama marked Palmeiras' ninth defeat in its last 13 league games left it second-to-last -- in the relegattion zone -- of the Brazilian Campeonato.
Scolari coached Portugal to a second-place finish at the 2004 European Championship and a fourth-place finish at the 2006 World Cup. He coached Chelsea in 2008-09.
