[MLS SCHEDULE: Week 31]The Chicago Fire could have all but clinched a playoff berth on Wednesday, but it fell to the Philadelphia Union, 3-1, for its first home loss in almost three months. The Vancouver Whitecaps picked up their first win in eight games with a 4-0 victory over Chivas USA that moved them five points ahead of FC Dallas for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. -- The Whitecaps' win eliminated the Portland Timbers, Colorado Rapids and Chivas USA all unable to overtake their current 42 points. Vancouver and FC Dallas remain in the running for the last Western Conference playoff berth.

-- Chivas USA's loss was its seventh straight -- the last five by shutouts. The game marked the MLS debut of 17-year-old Marky Delgado.
