Investigators raid offices of Napoli, Italian federation

Raids were conducted Wednesday by financial police on the offices of the Italian soccer federation and Napoli seeking documents pertaining to player transactions.

Associated Press reported the raids, which were ordered by Naples prosecutors, took place at federation headquarters in Rome and at Napoli's training center in Castelvolturno.  Seized in the raids were contracts and other materials that detailed arrangements between players and their representatives. Names of the players and agents being investigated have not been released.

The ANSA news agency reported that Napoli club lawyer Mattia Grassani said the team has followed contract regulations since it was acquired by Aurelio De Laurentiis in 2005. Financial problems had triggered the club's relegation to the third division but it earned promotion back to Serie A in 2007.

Napoli is tied for the Serie A lead with Juventus after six rounds of play and meets Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League Thursday.
