[LOS ANGELES GALAXY] The MLS Reserve League gives MLS clubs a chance to see how young players do when they line up against older pros, and the Los Angeles Galaxy played three academy players in its 6-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps that earned it its first Western Division title. Highly rated Raul Mendiola had two assists.

Drew Murphy and Oscar Sorto came off the bench in the win over the Whitecaps.

Homegrown signing Jack McBean, who is in his second season with the Galaxy, had two goals. Another homegrown signing, Jose Villarreal, who has played frequently since becoming eligible in mid-summer, is with the U.S. under-20 national team in Spain.

Other academy players who have suited up for the Galaxy reserves this season include Sebastian Velasquez and Nathan Smith.

Mario Rodriguez played for the Galaxy reserves before signing a pro contract with German club Kaiserslautern over the summer.

Defender Javan Torre played in a pair of Reserve League games in 2011 before enrolling at UCLA.
